Umatilla, Oregon: crews on the new police station and a lunch plan

Foundation work on Umatilla's new police station was continuing in August 2026, according to the city's project page. The 19.8 million dollar job rises behind the current station, and construction began in March. A building project of that size puts masons, steel crews and inspectors on one lot for months, all of them hungry at noon.

A kitchen for Umatilla leaves the Salem warehouse, about 240 miles from the site area. The rental team confirms route and timing.

A police station crew price example

Suppose a concrete and framing crew works a six-day push behind the current Umatilla police station and the builder wants hot lunches served on site rather than sending workers to town. One trailer would run a short menu through the shift.

Rental schedule: 1 to 6 days

  • 28 ft mobile kitchen: $4,995 to $7,995 per month

The rental team prices the actual term, site and delivery.

Umatilla breaks ground on new police station ↗

Elkhorn Media Group, March 4, 2026

Elkhorn Media Group reports that Umatilla broke ground on a roughly 14,000 square foot police station behind the current one. A 19.8 million dollar bond approved in November pays for it, and completion is expected in spring 2027. The old station will be demolished afterward to make parking.

For a kitchen rental: If the builder wants hot lunches for crews working a long job, ask early about pad space and a county food license.

The city's page lists design starting in November 2022, a construction manager and general contractor award in December 2024, a guaranteed maximum price in February 2026 and construction in March 2026. Site preparation continued into May, foundation work began in June, and it was still under way in August.

Elkhorn Media Group reported that completion is expected in spring 2027. That leaves a long stretch of vertical work where crew meals could become a question.

Site checklist behind the station

  • The pad should sit outside the active police parking and the lot the city expects to turn into public parking later.
  • The builder should confirm where heavy trucks swing so the trailer is not in a delivery path.
  • An electrician should confirm 220V single phase service and show the tie-in point.
  • Wastewater handling should be agreed with the health authority before any water is connected.
  • The builder should tell the police department how crew meals will affect parking before the date is set.

Permits and setup in order

  1. Health office Umatilla County Public Health lists Pendleton and Hermiston offices; ask Environmental Health about a temporary restaurant or mobile unit license.
  2. City approvals Ask Umatilla city hall whether a vendor or site permit is needed for a contractor-run kitchen.
  3. Builder sign-off Get the general contractor's written approval of the pad and the traffic route.
  4. Delivery The rental team confirms routing and site access once the gate and turning radius are known.

Wind, wildfire and winter checks

  • Umatilla sits on the Columbia River in open country, so ask the crew to secure awnings and propane cylinders against wind.
  • Oregon's governor declared a wildfire emergency in June 2026, so ask the fire authority about outdoor cooking restrictions.
  • The State Fire Marshal's page ties mobile units to LP gas inspection and extinguisher rules under the 2025 fire code.
  • Plan for cold snaps and a statewide ice storm like the one declared in January 2024, since freezing can affect water lines.
